Digipack analysis

The script’s digipack front cover clearly shows a lot of initiative and detail through the use of colour and tone. The front cover clearly uses a grey arm holding a couple, therefore, representing the escalating emotions that the woman has over the structure and detail of society. The bottom of the digipack includes a landscape of different homes and buildings; therefore, representing a typical urban lifestyle, which can suggest that, the woman has escaped the emotionless and demonic boundaries of society. The woman in a yellow dress clearly represents purity and innocence by having reference of religious aspects through traditional colours of an angel. The yellow represents a protector due to her holding the headless figure, this therefore shows her consciousness over the victims and people that society has control over. The white figure of the male has his head out of a spectrum of colours in a rainbow form. This therefore represents the character’s freedom over his imprisonment of being isolated by the government and society’s inanition of individuals such as himself. This also links to the woman’s protection role therefore representing her as an iconic and individual figure of assisting the weak to improve their potential.  The spectrum of colours of the rainbow also represents a different range of emotions and feelings through a religious aspect. The Script’s digipack also uses bold and thin textual forms of words to represent their desire and ideas over changing groups of society’s lifestyles. This also links to the theorist Levi Strauss that the woman is represented as good and protection whereas the society landscape is represented as underachieving and consuming the world. The contrast has clearly made this front cover feel very decisive and creates fear for the audience due to the couple’s fate over escaping the antagonist’s imprisonment of people.
The cartoon abstract style of the digipack has also been used to represent the atmosphere through an unsuspected and different opinioned atmosphere. This also creates a post modernistic and historical referencing atmosphere that the use of Victorian old style homes and factories links towards the past elements, therefore being representing as the antagonistic and supreme landscape. In contrast, the couple on the grey hand is being represented as the futuristic and iconic individuals that have challenged the powerful and deducting society.  Therefore this implies that the band Script is similar to muse that they respectively go over the boundaries in order to create their opinions and sayings towards their audience members. The script has clearly shown that their group creates reference to post industrial reference. The industrialism and governmental supremacy, therefore, makes the landscape dark and miserable. This therefore builds to the binary oppositions theory of Levi Strauss’s theory of binary oppositions, therefore, linking to Muse’s contrast of lower and upper class. This therefore makes the dig pack a symbol of independence, therefore, this links to the uses and gratifications theory by providing independent theories and opinions over the consideration of society and government. The uses and gratifications of the script also links to the relationship between the audience and the product, this establishes connections and similarities. And finally the media product of the script also links to Stuart Hall’s theory of encoding and decoding that as audience encode the media product as an media product of representing humans as intelligent and adapting individuals that allow themselves to become very decisive. Whereas the media product decode itself as a product that goes against the boundaries of society therefore making itself more independent and powerful towards the political aspects. And finally the Script has also used representational codes to create an elevating and developing atmosphere that creates interest for the audience members.
The muse dig pack clearly has a spectrum of colors for the dome and text to link towards evolution of life and creation therefore creating a range of emotions for the audience members such as happiness and sadness. This can link to Levi Strauss’s theory of binary oppositions of good and evil. The Muse dig pack also uses the title “the Resistance” their independence and strong attitudes against institutions and society that has challenged their moral values and integrity. This can also link to David Morley’s theory of creating meaning of constructed differences based on social class between upper and lower class. This therefore builds the contrast of classes. The back cover of the dig pack has a black and white picture of the band walking across the landscape with the ideal city landscape in the background. This therefore represents the band’s isolation and against society’s structure and self-opinions. The dome on the front cover also builds the atmosphere of knowledge and enthusiasm of discovery over a new world that builds a new species of diversity. Both uses of the dome and band imagery are used to both representing their ideology and independence of being alone and go against the governments and society of current urbanized lifestyle.  The grey background of both covers are used to represent an emotionless and hollow landscape that makes the dome and band more iconic and important therefore representing their entrapment in an landscape full of no development and hollow emotions that causes misery and hopeless meaning for the audience.  The Muse dig pack also contains spectrum of changing colors and tones shows a development of emotions and representations with the interchanging psychological aspects therefore causing the audience to feel more distant and show a lot of integrity and imagination this therefore causes the mysteries of life and creation to become more discrete and incognito towards the audience members. This therefore makes muse a secret society that isolated and causes independence in order to maintain their secrets and factual detail. The dig pack also uses the dome image to show the inter changing worlds between humans and abstract landscapes. The dome also references the Eden project therefore also building the evolution and life of human species this therefore causes the audience to feel anticipated and curious about the purpose of Muse’s social structure and representation over in a different perspective view. This causes confusion and questions for the audience this therefore links to Morley’s theory of social class that the meaning is constructed differently based on their social structure and reputation. The Muse dig pack also use the title “the resistance” to enthuse their argumentative and strong values against those that have challenged and begin to threaten their own judgment and values. The digi pack also acts as a catalyst for encouraging those who want their own opinions and values against society and government.  Also the digi pack also links to political and ideology therefore causing a contrast of different characteristics and representations therefore causing confusion and challenging the audience’s views and overall opinion about the ideal society that has built our entire population through the areas of development. And finally the dig pack also includes strong and bold textual font therefore promoting their band name and build their own reputation in order for audience members particularly teenagers to allow themselves to recognize Muse’s overall status and purpose for their musical product and representation of their own youth culture and political values. So this shows that their own values build their own political and cultural aspects to create interest and connections with their audience members.   This is similar to the script’s dig pack due to creating their own self values and opinions.
The next dig pack is for the band REM that the dig pack contains a lot of futuristic and technological landscape therefore causing the audience members to become enthused by REM’s use of technological uses and gratifications. Therefore this can attract male audience members such as older male adults, therefore causing the male audience to consume the product by participating in a world full of futurism and post modernistic landscape that allows audience members to escape from reality into the abstract landscape. This therefore links to muse’s representational codes and conventions due to both dig packs. The REM dig pack also uses the standard black and white contrast in order to attract their audience through an historical reference therefore causing more interest and change the audience’s opinion. The word “accelerate” is also used as an catalyst for speeding the audience member’s hopes and desires of becoming more adaptable and intellectual.  The use of the technological city for an landscape is very useful which is specifically also linking towards a developing and more integrated society. This is different compared to the previous 2 dig packs due to the purpose and representation of their ideal societies. That REM portrays their society as an ideal and iconic society therefore causing the audience members to become more anticipated and more interpretive in joining their society and becoming a member of their civilization. This can also link to Stuart Hall’s theory of decoding and encoding that as audience members decode the media product as an product full of futurism and technological world whereas the product really encodes itself as an catalyst for attraction and becoming more of an tribute towards the governmental and societal laws of rights. Therefore this makes REM a group full of followers and less independence which is an exact opposite towards other rebellious and argumentative bands such as Muse and the Script. Muse uses their own interpretation towards their advantage by sharing their values and ideological supremacy whereas the script has their own independent values to show audience members to become more stronger against society’s potential. REM are consisting of a group that follows society therefore making themselves as promotional and persuasive members of the civilization of their society. This therefore causes them to make them antagonistic to other audience members. The texts also enthuses this representation of promotion by using three dimensional text to personify their imagery and purpose in order to create a new opinion and perspective for the audience.  The use of the skyscrapers and tall buildings builds the representation of the audience being inferior and more vulnerable due to society overcrowding and overpowering themselves towards their advantage. REM, therefore, uses fear to pressure and create a lot of conflict in order to force the audience to join their society therefore causing a lot of political aspects to become more involved. This also links to David Morley’s theory that the meaning of the representation of the skyscrapers towards constructed differences that social classes through upper and lower classes involved base the differences.  And finally REM the tone and use of shadow also causes development of the meanings and opinions therefore allowing audience members to become more respectable and enthesised that REM are a group of social people that remorse their society through a hegemony and integrating society towards their social structure. And finally REM uses a city landscapes to become more post modernistic therefore making it link towards historical reference. This also links to Muse’s dig pack by both linking to industrialization of factories and Victorian infrastructure therefore showing a changing environment to have the older people  become more attracted towards REM.
