Shot List
Shot(s) Type of Shot Explanation
1 Medium Shot- Flag The flag represents hope and justice, therefore the medium shot is used to make it different groups. This is linked to being different towards society.
2 Over the Shoulder- Drummer The over the shoulder is used to represent community and teamwork making it show resistance and contrast of upper and lower classes.
3 Montage- Long, medium and close up- Band members Band are represented as leaders of the resistance making them show power and dominance, they express their own beliefs and views in a democratic and independent value.
4 Close Up- Garage Door The garage door represents a lower social and representative architectural building. This creates a rough and unauthorised location allowing the audience to feel disorientated and shocked.
5 Close up- Singer The close up of the singer represents as demise towards our society. This enforces the rebellious and argumentative atmosphere. This can make audience members feel very patriotic and feel proud for others expressing their values and beliefs.
6 Medium Shot- Business Man The medium shot is used to represent the formal person as the opposite social members allowing it to create conflict and contrast of the social classes. This particularly links to Levi Strauss’s theory of binary oppositions.
7 Medium Shot- Laptop The medium shot of the laptop with the baseball bat is represented as strength and masculinity showing a sense of pride and anger from the lower class against the upper class. This creates a greater contrast and challenges stereotypical views of class.
8 Medium Shots- Keys and Coat The objects represented as upper classes’ material possession showing hopes and dreams for the upper class of society. This therefore makes the audience feel scared and intimidated by the fact that the lower class has started an alliance against the upper people.
9 Montage - Band consisting of extreme close up, medium shot and long shot Montage of shots represents the band as powerful and strong therefore re strengthening the image and dominance. Band members also create fear for the audience because it breaks their typical life boundaries.
10 Medium Shot- Striped hooded figure breaking into a car/ Montage of Speed dial, POV of driving and Side angle The hooded figure clearly shows a iconic figure for the lower social class and uses a stereotypical behaviour of the lower class. This links to theft and damage towards the upper class’s property and benefits. And also the speed dial is represented as acceleration to the lower social class’s power allowing showing Todorov’s disequilibrium and Levi Strauss’s theory of binary oppositions.
11 Medium Shot- Business Man walking along the road The medium shot is used to represent person associated with baseball bat therefore re establishing the independence and open minded lower class.
12 Tilt/ Medium Shot- Black
Hooded Figure As the camera moves up to the hooded figures face, this builds a climatic and dramatic atmosphere allowing the audience to feel very scared and show the beginning of the resistance temptation of the lower class.
13 Pan/ Medium shot- Formal Man running The formal man is representing a member of society allowing a build up of social class. This therefore causes society to feel weak and lose their links between members. The business man is represented as a catalyst o stereotypical masculinity
14 Over the shoulder- Guitarist The shot clearly shows stereotypical lower class’s associations of music culture and associations. Although this represents a culture of the lower class however this shows a link towards community.
15 Multi Shots consisting of medium and close ups- Band members The montage of medium and long shots make it an unstable and loud background. This therefore challenges the upper class and starts a war of the classes. This can also influence the lower class allowing the theorists Barthes and Stuart Hall to be applied here. Hall’s theory will allow the audience to decode this montage with close ups and medium shots
17 Side Angle- Guitarist The guitarist is used as an iconic member of lower class which keeps on etherising Goodwin’s theory allowing us to build narrative and structure to our music video.
18 Riots- Long shot and medium shots The shots of the riots at public places are used to represent community and regular society. This therefore calms the audience, which provides them the ideal society that has been corrupted b y the lower class showing a conflict between classes allowing one to overpower the other. However the police show a lot of representation of reinforcement which etherises the upper classes resistance against the lower class.
19 Birds eye view- burning building The shot of the person existing creates mystery and confusion for the audience. Therefore the person can be representing as a potential threat due to his unidentified profile.
20 Birds eye view/ Pan- Riots of people attacking the buildings This creates a atmosphere allowing the audience to feel very worried and scared of the dangers of the lower class against our society this therefore links to the disequilibrium of Todorov’s theory allowing us to experiment and apply the conventions to etherise the genre of alternative rock.
22 Two Shot- Between shaking hands The two men shaking hands show relationship and cause shock to the audience that although the two men show a different contrast of classes. They still have connections with each other which help the audience members to feel very connected.
23 Tracking and over the shoulder shot- Black hooded figure walking along the forest This uses aspects of stereotypes from the lower class, which still reconciles the contrast of class. However this doesn’t create new beliefs for the rebellious resistance which makes the audience members feel not surprised. They expect this sort of behaviour from poorer families stereotypically.
24 Close up- Cymbal from Drum kit The close up of the cymbal makes the atmosphere feel very strong and creates echos across to the audience. This therefore also echos the rebels’ message of redemption and retribution.
25 Over the shoulder shot- Drummer The shot of the drummer represents his views between his and their class. Therefore creating a stronger independent value for the drummer. He’s also represented as the power and might the lower social class have against the upper class.
26 POV- Person driving car This creates a point of view of the lower classes rage and anger against the upper class thinking they are powerful and ruling. The use of editing also links with this to etherise his desire and reasons for the beginning of the conflict. This gives it another perspective.
27 Close up- Guitarist The close up is used to represent the guitarist as insensitive and unusual due to his loud and echoing music. This also catalyses the conclusion to the contrast of the classes.
28 Long shot- Town The long shot of the town represents them as a community left in ruins and their class. This therefore shows to the audience that they need to join together and make the final stand. And that the upper class are weak and helpless from the resistance of the lower classes. This therefore causes distortion and worriedness for the audience. This therefore builds up drama and the shock factor for the audience allowing them to feel very considerate for the conflict of the social classes.
